- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices reduced-fat provolone cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
For the Garlic Spread:
- 2 tablespoons light butter or margarine, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preparation:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Make the Garlic Spread:
- In a small bowl, combine the melted light butter or margarine, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning to create the garlic spread.
- Toast the Hoagie Rolls:
- Slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the garlic spread onto the cut sides of the hoagie rolls. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is lightly toasted.
- Prepare the Cheesesteak Filling:
- While the bread is toasting, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the thinly sliced beef steak and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced bell pepper, sliced onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-6 minutes.
- Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the vegetables and toss to combine.
- Assemble and Bake the Sandwiches:
- Divide the steak and vegetable mixture evenly among the toasted hoagie rolls.
- Top each sandwich with a slice of reduced-fat provolone cheese.
- Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish the Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
