Ingredients
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil
• 2 large eggs
• 2 tbsp black cocoa powder
• 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tbsp white vinegar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• Black food coloring (gel or paste, as needed)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat the Oven:
• Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
• Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Mix the Dry Ingredients:
• In a bowl, whisk together flour, black cocoa powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3️⃣ Cream the Butter & Sugar:
• In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
• Add the vegetable oil and mix until well incorporated.
4️⃣ Add the Eggs & Flavorings:
• Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and vinegar.
5️⃣ Incorporate the Buttermilk & Dry Ingredients:
• Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
• Mix until just combined.
6️⃣ Add Food Coloring:
• Stir in black food coloring until you achieve a deep, dark shade.
7️⃣ Bake the Cake:
• Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
• Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
